Bench Top Wrap Tester
Product Overview
The Bench Top Wrap Tester from Sjogren Industries is expertly crafted to evaluate the ductility of spring wire and assess the adhesion of coatings on metallic wire. This precision instrument adheres to the stringent testing standards set by the American Wire Producers Association for steel products and is built to US Safety and Electrical Standards.
The Sjogren Wrap Testing Machine features an adjustable, rotating chuck and a sliding mandrel support carriage, providing operators with precise control over the wraps on the mandrel. The test consists of coiling the wire in a closely spaced helix to enable visual inspection for cracks or fractures.

1 Wide Wire Range
Spring Wire Diameter Range:
- .050" to .375"
- 1,27 mm to 9,5 mm
Machine Dimensions:
- Width: 28″ (71cm)
- Length: 52″ (132cm)
- Height: 22″ (56cm)
- Weight: 400 lbs. (182 kg)
2 Mandrel Capacity
The Wrap Tester is engineered for optimal performance, accommodating mandrel diameters from .050" to 1.5" or 1.27 mm to 38 mm.
Ensure to note your requirement for mandrels spacers and bushings, and the sizes required on your form, or when speaking with a member of the Sjogren Team.
3 Drive Unit
There is also a 124:1 gear reducer that drives the rotating chuck at an approximate speed of 13.9 RPM.
A limit switch positioned to the rear of the sliding carriage de-energizes the motor after the carriage has passed, ending the wrap cycle. A limit switch mounted above the chuck prevents machine operation if the guard is not closed.
4 Interlocked Guard
Note there is a viewing window on the cover that is not shown in the interactive model.
5 Dual Operational Modes
Mode 1 utilizes the wire guide bushing in the tooling block and the wire much me drawn completely through the bushing.
Mode 2* eliminates the use of the wire guide bushing and utilizes the slotted opening of the guide bar on the tooling block to support the wire during wrapping.
*The wrapping cycle must be manually stopped before the wire sample is pulled completely through the guide bar, and then Forward/Reverse switch is used to safely remove the built up spring pressure in the wire so it can be removed from the machine.
6 Sliding Carriage

Wrap Tester FAQ
Why aren't mandrels, spacers and bushing included with the base models?
Mandrels and mandrel support bushings are not supplied as part of the standard machine but can be supplied optionally upon request. Mandrel diameters are dependent upon the exact wire diameter being tested and what specification is required for wrapping around a mandrel of 1x to 4x the diameter of the wire.
We can supply these at your request for an additional cost
Where are the details for the wrap test parameters?
Details for the wrap test can be found in the ASTM 8370 Section 4.7
How do I ensure the best outcome for my reverse bend test?
Ensure that your test piece is placed properly in the guides, and grips, and you bend the piece completely 90° in each direction, each interval per your testing requirements.
One direction completely bent and back to its original position is considered one bend.
Repeat in the opposite direction without interruption
